Cette f\u00eate a \u00e9volu\u00e9 dans le temps.\u2028<br>Ainsi, les romains f\u00eataient les <strong>Lupercales<\/strong> vers le 15 f\u00e9vrier. Ces f\u00eates c\u00e9l\u00e9braient la lumi\u00e8re et le retour du soleil, les jours s&#8217;allongeant.<\/p>\n<p>Au 5\u00e8me si\u00e8cle, le pape <strong>G\u00e9lase 1er<\/strong> a supprim\u00e9 les <strong>Lupercales<\/strong>, souhaitant mettre fin \u00e0 ces rites pa\u00efens. A la place, il a instaur\u00e9 une f\u00eate chr\u00e9tienne, la f\u00eate de la <strong>Chandeleur<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Durant cette f\u00eate, des cierges \u00e9taient allum\u00e9s \u00e0 minuit en signe de purification. <br>Les torches dans les \u00e9glises ont \u00e9t\u00e9 remplac\u00e9es par des bougies b\u00e9nites qui repr\u00e9sentaient la lumi\u00e8re du <strong>Christ<\/strong>. Les bougies b\u00e9nies pouvaient \u00eatre rapport\u00e9es dans les foyers.<\/p>\n<p><strong>La Chandeleur<\/strong> correspond \u00e9galement \u00e0 la f\u00eate religieuse chr\u00e9tienne de la purification de la <strong>Vierge Marie<\/strong> et de la pr\u00e9sentation de <strong>J\u00e9sus<\/strong> au <strong>Temple<\/strong>.<br>A l&#8217;occasion de cette f\u00eate, il \u00e9tait alors de tradition de consommer la farine qui n\u2019avait pas \u00e9t\u00e9 consomm\u00e9e pendant l\u2019hiver et de confectionner des cr\u00eapes, leur forme ronde rappelant celle du
