Son \u0153uvre se caract\u00e9rise par des int\u00e9rieurs \u00e9pur\u00e9s, souvent presque vides, baign\u00e9s d\u2019une lumi\u00e8re douce et froide, o\u00f9 apparaissent parfois des figures f\u00e9minines de dos \u2014 notamment son \u00e9pouse, Ida.<\/p>\n<p>Surnomm\u00e9 \u00ab le peintre du silence \u00bb, <strong>Hammersh\u00f8i<\/strong> d\u00e9veloppe une esth\u00e9tique minimaliste fond\u00e9e sur des tons gris et une grande sobri\u00e9t\u00e9 formelle. Ses tableaux ne racontent pas une action, mais sugg\u00e8rent une atmosph\u00e8re int\u00e9rieure, faite de calme, de solitude et d\u2019introspection.<\/p>\n<p>Influenc\u00e9 par la peinture hollandaise du <strong>XVII\u1d49 si\u00e8cle<\/strong> et admir\u00e9 pour son traitement de la lumi\u00e8re et de l\u2019espace, il a connu une certaine reconnaissance de son vivant avant d\u2019\u00eatre red\u00e9couvert au <strong>XX\u1d49 si\u00e8cle<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n<p><strong>&#8220;Hammersh\u00f8i.
