Jean Epstein<\/strong> (Varsovie, 1897 – Paris, 1953<\/strong>) est un r\u00e9alisateur fran\u00e7ais. Tout en \u00e9tudiant la m\u00e9decine \u00e0 l\u2019universit\u00e9 de Lyon<\/strong>, il entre en contact avec les avant-gardes artistiques de l\u2019entre-deux-guerres parisiennes et rencontre quelques-uns des plus importants directeurs de la premi\u00e8re avant-garde r\u00e9aliste, comme Louis Delluc<\/strong>, Marcel L\u2019Herbier<\/strong> et Germaine Dulac<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

“La po\u00e9sie d\u2019aujourd\u2019hui, un nouvel \u00e9tat de l\u2019intelligence<\/strong>“. C\u2019est ainsi que Jean Epstein<\/strong> a d\u00e9fini l\u2019art cin\u00e9matographique au d\u00e9but des ann\u00e9es 1920<\/strong>. Un si\u00e8cle plus tard, sa figure reste l\u2019une des plus myst\u00e9rieuses et fascinantes de l\u2019histoire du cin\u00e9ma. Prolifique th\u00e9oricien, philosophe et alchimiste de l\u2019image en mouvement, il applique les principes de sa pens\u00e9e dans des films d\u2019un lyrisme d\u00e9bordant et in\u00e9puisable. Il poursuit la puret\u00e9, l\u2019exp\u00e9rience cathartique et la sensualit\u00e9, poussant le milieu cin\u00e9matographique \u00e0 des limites inconnues. Il lie ses travaux \u00e0 ceux de membres du mouvement surr\u00e9aliste comme Andr\u00e9 Breton<\/strong> et Luis Bu\u00f1uel<\/strong>, sur lesquels il exerce une profonde influence.
